The 2022 Cunning Plan Shiraz is exotic and grounded by a register of graphite spice: crushed rocks, peppercorns, raw cocoa and even tapenade. This is light on its feet yet intense and focused. It is supple but not plush, and while sybaritic in its splay of purple and black fruit, it isn't opulently styled. Again, this is a lovely release from the 2022 vintage here—restrained and ripe. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Appealingly fresh nose, there's some rosemary and thyme among the plum and damson fruit. Medium to full-bodied, this has some energy and zest on the palate, not to mention some enjoyably textural tannins. The alcohol is fairly high, but overall this has focus, freshness and drinkability.

Dark hues of purple and ruby lead to a bouquet and palate of ripe black currant and blue fruit flavours, fine fruit tannins and a finer layer of new wood spices with a touch of smoke. Perfectly balanced and dry, core fruit flavours are persistent as are the spice and some dry stone mineral layers - all leading to a balanced even finish. Best drinking from 2024 through 2029.
