Dark red berries, peppery spices, and herbs with a hint of smoke, and spice open the nose. On the palate, the wine is lush, round, fruity, creamy, and sweet, with layers of plush, dark red fruits, and white pepper on the palate that carries through to the finish. The wine was made with a blend of 50% old vine Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, and 20% Syrah.

91+ point. The 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape les Origines is 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and 20% Syrah, aged in a mix of new barriques (for the Syrah and Mourvèdre) and concrete tanks (for the Grenache). Hints of leather and cedar accent cherries and redcurrants on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate starts off supple and easy, then turns rather grippy and tannic on the finish, as the wood tannins assert themselves. If those integrate, expect the wine to rate a couple of points higher in a few years' time.
